Aquamarine is a European precious gem that is highly desired by all gem collectors. It comes from the family called Beryl, the most famous member of which is emerald. Aquamarine comes in various shades of color including
green and blue.
Aquamarine is the modern day birthstone for those born in March; but those born in October also recognizes it as their birthstone. The most desirable aquamarine comes from Brazil. It is getting increasingly difficult to find
good quality aquamarine; good quality stones can fetch hundreds of dollars per carat.

Aquamarine is derived from the Latin word, aqua marina, meaning sea water. Aquamarine is believed to make sailors fearless and protect them from adversaries at sea. In the Middle Ages, it was believed that the wearer would be granted foresight, insight and freedom from insomnia.
Aquamarine is the anniversary gemstone for the 16th and the 19th year of marriage.
